While most violations are minor infractions, convictions carry consequences that can cost you money, time, and great inconvenience. Some traffic violations are more serious, such as driving without a license, and are misdemeanors that result in heavy fines and the possibility of jail time.

At Lerner & Lerner, P.C., our attorneys advise and represent clients facing various types of offenses:

  • Driving without a license
  • Driving with a suspended or revoked license
  • Driving without liability insurance
  • Moving violations
  • Reckless driving
  • Car accidents
  • Driving while ability impaired (DWAI) charges
  • DWI charges
  • Driving while ability impaired by drugs

Driving on a Revoked or Suspended License

Many drivers are shocked to discover they have been charged with a crime and face criminal penalties when they are stopped by the Police and receive what they think is a "ticket" for Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law Section 511 (driving after suspension/revocation of your driver's license) is a criminal misdemeanor or felony carrying serious penalties, including possible jail, fines, and even seizure of your vehicle.

In order to defend a violation of VTL 511 it is essential to determine the basis for the suspension/revocation. WE CAN HELP YOU DO THIS. With your authorization, we have the ability to run your DMV abstract so we can help you straighten out your license.

Avoid the consequences of traffic violations

Failure to answer tickets can result in a scoff on your license. This means that your license will be suspended until you clear up the underlying ticket and pay a scoff lift fee.  Losing your driving privileges could result in major lifestyle changes and difficulties reaching employment or completing routine errands. You may lose your job entirely or be unable to obtain certain certifications or other privileges.

Traffic laws in Long Island and New York City are tough. There are a lot of drivers in this area, and the laws have to provide order to all of them.  That doesn’t mean you need to be run through a ringer, though.  Let us help.

If you are facing a traffic violation, it is important to know the consequences of your responses. For example, pleading guilty to not having insurance can result in very costly civil penalties and a one-year mandatory revocation of your license.

We strive to reduce costs for clients and, whenever possible, dismiss violations. In some cases, fighting a traffic violation could save you money in the short-term and long-term when it comes to civil or criminal penalties and vehicle liability insurance.
