Police search house; detain 3 men for drug possession

After police searched a New York home on Sept. 24, they took three men into custody for criminal possession of a controlled substance. The Clarkstown Police Department carried out the search after an investigation was launched into complaints about people selling drugs out of the West Clarkstown Road home.

Local police have reportedly been pursuing heroin dealers in Rockland County and attempting to help heroin addicts in the area. With the help from state police and the FBI, authorities aim to shut down the supply of heroin entering the area from New York City and New Jersey. The district attorney for Rockland County says that they aim to identify the major heroin suppliers through social media and intel.

During the Sept. 24 search, police claim that they found drug paraphernalia, suboxone, marijuana and heroin packaged in 240 envelopes inside the New City home. The men in the house, ages 22, 26 and 32, were detained and booked into Rockland County Jail on charges of drug possession. Police say that the 26-year-old was also facing charges of possession of drug paraphernalia and a controlled substance. The youngest of the men was held on bail of $7,500 while the eldest was held in lieu of $10,000 bail. Bail was denied for the 26-year-old.

When people are accused of drug possession, they could face jail time and fines if they are convicted. These penalties could become more severe if the accused have previous convictions for drug possession or other offenses. These situations may be overwhelming for the defendants to navigate on their own, so they could enlist the aid of a lawyer. If there is sufficient evidence, a lawyer may prove that authorities violated a defendant's rights when his or her property or person was searched, which could lead to a dismissal of the charges.
