Woman accused of cashing bad checks

On Feb. 17, a woman in New York was arrested for her alleged involvement in a fraudulent check scheme. The next day, police announced that she had been charged with misdemeanor petit larceny, felony possession of a forged instrument and that more arrests were pending. The 51-year-old woman is accused of executing a check-cashing scam in Ulster, Kingston and Saugerties. The arrest resulted from a local grocer's complaint on Nov. 17 regarding several payroll checks from various businesses that proved to be fraudulent.

22 arrested in New York after 2-month drug investigation

A total of 22 people are facing drug-related charges after undercover cops said they had spent two months purchasing drugs from several individuals in varying locations in New York. The age range of those arrested is 21 to 56 years old, and it was alleged that the defendants sold oxycodone, crack and powdered cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine. Four other individuals are also being sought by police.

Stoned driving vs. drunk driving in New York

According to a survey from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the number of drivers found with marijuana in their system increased from 2007. The survey, which was conducted in 2013 and 2014, found that 12.6 percent of drivers tested positive for marijuana compared to 8.6 percent in 2007. In the same time period, the number of drivers who had alcohol in their system decreased since 2007.

Police detain 11 people in drug raid

Eleven people in New York are facing drug charges following a police raid on Jan. 30. The incident took place in Schenectady shortly before 7 p.m. and concluded an investigation that was being conducted by the Schenectady Police Department's Special Investigation Unit. It is unclear how long the investigation was going on prior to the raid.

Generally, identity theft involves a person obtaining and using another person's identifying information in order to gain a benefit. Normally, the benefit received is a financial one.

New York aggravated assault charges

An aggravated assault is similar to a simple assault, but it involves some factor that increases its severity from a misdemeanor to a felony. For instance, serious injuries can result in aggravated assault charges. This includes life-threatening injuries or injuries that disfigure or maim the victim. It could even include cases where the assailant made the victim fear serious injuries, whether the victim received any injuries or not.
