The upper chamber voted unanimously in favor of the law, which makes leaving the scene of any accident illegal for drunk drivers, but approval by the Assembly is far from certain. This marks the fourth time that the bill has been passed by the Senate, but the measure has yet to reach the governor's desk.
After driving the wrong way on an exit ramp, a 37-year-old woman crashed into another vehicle. Her own car caught fire and both drivers were taken to a local hospital in New York as a precaution. Fortunately, neither driver was injured. Once at the hospital, the wrong-way driver was reportedly uncooperative with authorities. A blood test was taken to determine if she was intoxicated.
According to New York State troopers from the Village of Lake Success, a 45-year-old woman was detained after allegedly leaving the scene of an accident. The incident occurred on Feb. 24 on the Northern State Parkway close to Meadowbrook Parkway.
A New York man has been accused of DWI after a single-car accident that left his car partially submerged in the Niagara River, according to reports. The accident took place on Dec. 29 at about 5:30 p.m. Only one person was involved in the crash.
According to authorities with the North Greenbush Police Department, a woman was taken into custody on Dec. 23 for felony DWI and other charges following an accident. Reportedly, the accident occurred around 4:50 p.m. on West Sand Lake Road.
Police in New York City have reported that reality television star Buddy Valastro was taken into custody in the early morning hours of Nov. 13 on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Valastro did not enter a plea to drunk driving charges at an arraignment hearing later in the day, and he was subsequently released. The New Jersey resident shot to fame as the star of the reality television show 'Cake Boss," which follows events at his Hoboken bakery.
Ontario County Sheriff's deputies detained a 17-year-old driver on suspicion of DWI after an Oct. 15 accident involving a Penn Yan School District bus. The incident occurred at about 4 p.m., just after the teen's vehicle purportedly ran a stop sign at the Phelps intersection of Trimble Road and State Route 488.
Police say that the representative for the 13th district on the Broome County Legislature was drunk when he hit a cyclist with his vehicle in Binghamton and left the scene. The incident allegedly happened after the 49-year-old legislator, who is the son of the DMV commissioner, had been drinking at a bar.
A man from upstate New York has been accused of driving a vehicle that ran into several other vehicles over the course of a few minutes. Authorities believe that the man may also have been under the influence of intoxicants at the time of the accident.
Police say that a Midland Beach woman was driving under the influence when she sideswiped a vehicle in the early hours of Aug. 20. The accident occurred on the northbound West Shore Expressway in the vicinity of the Victory Boulevard exit at approximately 1:20 a.m. According to police, the woman used an ethnic slur to describe the other party involved in the accident when she was questioned in regards to the incident.
